Buried by an avalanche on a Colorado mountain road, Jim Henderson clawed his way out of his SUV and felt bone-crushing ice and snow holding him fast. He grew colder while he fought exhaustion, and after the third night in the deep-freeze he was ready to give up and become a human icicle. But he spotted a ramshackle cabin on a distant hill and was able to reach it before nightfall. He went to sleep on a foil-lined blanket and awoke in the night to a nerve-shattering scraping of metal-on-metal on the roof. And to his amazement, he could see the dim outline of an old wooden rocking chair in the moonlight, rocking away but without anyone in it. Thanks to a hearty mountaineer he met on the way, the two of them realized almost too late that their lives were melting away as they searched for a supernatural rescue.
